Our associational director and lead strategist
Dr. Alan Small became the Executive Director for Dogwood Trails Baptist Association in August 2021. Alan and his wife, Rachelle, are West Texas natives who spent time in Oklahoma and Colorado before making the move to East Texas. Alan has been a long tenured pastor, church planter, and church revitalizer. Alan also served as a track and cross country coach for his local high school. When coaching and ministry came together, he sensed God’s call to associational work.
“I am passionate about the long-term health and vitality of our churches and ministry leaders.. I have experienced an attempt to build that health on my own, but I came to recognize that God’s best plan is for churches to work together for God’s kingdom.”
Alan and Rachelle have two grown, married daughters. Rachelle works at Jacksonville College as Assistant to the President. Alan has degrees from Wayland Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds certifications in church consultation and in church revitalization. He co-hosts the Enduring Churches Podcast with long time friend Trent Young.
